AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich Builds Released for Several Devices

Thanks to the wonderful developers over at XDA, there are now AOSP builds of ICS available for several devices. Sure, there have been SDK ports, but those tend to lack the functionality of a true AOSP build because they are designed to work on completely different hardware and without access to the source code, developers can’t really adjust SDKs for other phones. The phones that are lucky enough to get updates are:

  • Nexus One
  • HTC Desire
  • HTC Desire HD
  • HTC Droid Eris
  • HTC Hero
  • HTC Hero CDMA
  • Nexus S
  • Samsung Galaxy S I9000

I find it interesting that the vast majority of these devices are HTC, although I do not think there is really that much to read into there. None of the builds are really perfect at this point. Most of them have issues with the radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Another thing of interest is that the vast majority of these devices are relatively old, including the hotly controversial Nexus One which Google Decided not to support for Ice Cream Sandwich.
